About the role
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Engineer with a Network Strategic Planning focus to join our Network Planning and Development team. Ideally, this role will be based within Essential Energy’s Northern NSW planning area footprint. This Northern NSW planning footprint extends from Bulahdelah to Tweed Heads, and out through regional NSW to Cobar.
As our Senior Engineer for Network Strategic Planning, you will join an experienced, capable and supportive team that is at the forefront of shaping the network into what it needs to be for the future. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with our other Senior Engineering specialist and Network Planners, solve emerging and traditional network issues, implement new technologies, provide leadership for your focus area of strategic planning and see your decisions turn into real world solutions for the network and our customers.
The intention is to have two Senior Engineer Strategic Planning Roles, one in the Northern team, and one in the Southern team (which has been filled). These two roles have equal and shared responsibility for leading our Strategic Planning activities, including developing consistent processes, templates, policies and supporting our Planners to produce quality strategic plans and business cases to deadlines. Strong collaboration between these roles, and shared leadership will be critical for success.
In addition, these roles are responsible for providing leadership in strategic planning within the Network Planning team, including:
Champion and promote innovative, strategic thinking to support the energy transition, optimise the network and enable energy solutions of the future, maximise the value and utilisation of the network, and meet our customer’s needs
Develop and implement well defined processes, policy, guidelines and tools for the execution of network strategic planning and continually manage the regular review and updating of network strategic plans
Lead workshops with team members and stakeholders to ensure that our strategic planning activities meets their needs, and that the content of the strategic plans covers the broad topics required for best practice strategic thinking whilst also enabling others to understand our future plans for the network so that they can be in a more informed position to make well aligned, consistent, and optimal decisions
Develop a template that forms the basis for our strategic plans that achieves professionally presented, well structured, complete, and useful documents for both internal and external audiences
Provide expert guidance and support to Network Planners during their network strategy reviews
Provide expert guidance and support in the development of high level internal and external documents for strategic programs and projects
Establish and manage the required information sources so that the Network Planners have ready access to consistent, relevant information for their network strategy reviews
Peer review of reports, data and modelling related to strategic planning
About You
In order to be successful in this position, you will possess:
Extensive experience at a senior engineer level as a Network Planner
A complete understanding of Distribution and Subtransmission networks
Able to produce examples of high quality strategic plans that you have completed in previous roles
Advanced skills in network modelling, and a sound understanding of network forecasting
High level, professional report writing skills
A future thinking mindset that embraces technology, renewables, and a customer mindset whilst also driving productivity and meeting agreed targets
Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills with the ability to manage diverse and complex issues
Demonstrated ability to manage implementation and monitoring outcomes of enterprise required audits and provide reports with recommended improvements
Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to deliver technical services in a professional, collaborative and timely manner
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Engineering to satisfy Professional Membership criterion of Engineers Australia or other Professional Body as aligned to the Washington Accord
Drivers licence
WorkCover NSW Construction Induction Certificate
Desirable
Level 3 Restricted Zone Substation access.
