The Urban Development Industry of Australia Victoria is the peak industry body for Victoria's urban development industry. UDIA Victoria is a non-profit advocacy, research and educational organisation that represents the interests of the development, building and construction sector. The membership base includes a wide variety of organisations that all contribute to meet Victoria's housing, employment, and social needs. UDIA regularly hosts events that bring industry together to learn, connect, innovate and celebrate. About the Role Reporting to the Director of Policy, the role supports the advocacy program of UDIA Victoria through the preparation of policy positions and reports, input to submissions, coordinating policy committees, preparing presentations and assisting with event programming. Key Responsibilities As the Policy & Communications Officer, your responsibilities will include the following: Draft communications on policy, research and advocacy related content. Work closely with the Director of Policy and policy team on the preparation and drafting of written submissions. Support and attend UDIA committees including scheduling meetings, preparing agendas, inviting guest speakers, following up action items, and managing the advocacy action plans. Support stakeholder engagement activities that boost the relevance, credibility and impact of UDIA Victoria's policy, advocacy and research work. Support member communication activities to advance UDIA's Advocacy Agenda. Prepare communication plans including media releases, liaising with print, tv, online and radio media outlets. Attend UDIA events to provide high level engagement with attendees during events. Skills and Experience Minimum undergraduate qualification (for example but not in order of preference - Humanities, Politics, Law, Communications, Urban Policy, Economics etc). Background in advocacy and/or government relations. Experience briefing and advising senior executives. Experience in a policy and/or technical role within an issues-rich environment. Understanding of the property development industry, housing policy or related sectors or willingness to learn. Graphic design skills and working knowledge of relevant software (InDesign, Canva, WordPress etc).
