The Department
Alfred Health’s Physiotherapy Department provides acute physiotherapy services to the patients of The Alfred and Sandringham Hospital and subacute physiotherapy services to Caulfield Hospital.
The physiotherapy service at Caulfield Hospital provides an extensive range of inpatient and ambulatory services in the areas of rehabilitation, aged care and residential care services. The physiotherapy service provides subacute clinical services and expertise in the following areas: neurology, non-traumatic spinal cord injury, orthopaedics, amputees, burns, complex regional pain, cardiac rehabilitation, aged care, transitional care and aged psychiatry. The physiotherapy department is organised into functional streams: Neurological Rehabilitation, Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation, Health of Older Persons (HOP) and ABI.
Position Summary
The Allied Health Assistant (AHA) (Physiotherapy - CH) is located at Caulfield Hospital and is one of several AHA positions within the Physiotherapy department. This position will provide key support to the musculoskeletal and spinal rehabilitation teams. Some support in our home-based rehabilitation services, or other Caulfield streams may also be required at times. The overall objective of the position is to provide therapy support services to individuals and groups as directed by the physiotherapist with which they work, in this case across the entire physiotherapy service.
Primarily the AHA (Physiotherapy - CH) will assist the physiotherapist through the completion of tasks such as:
6. Assisting the physiotherapist with assessment and treatment, whether in an individual or group setting.
7. Providing exercise, mobility and activity programs as prescribed by the physiotherapist.
8. The delivery of equipment and the completion of the associated paperwork as prescribed by the health professional.
9. The coordination and organisation of services upon discharge as prescribed by the physiotherapist.
10. Administrative duties that assist the physiotherapist such as the entering of statistics, and the ordering and stocking of equipment.
The AHA (Physiotherapy - CH) works closely with the physiotherapy and other multidisciplinary team members to provide a flexible and responsive service that works to meet each client’s identified therapeutic goals. The AHA will also be responsible for administrative and cleaning duties which assist with client management and will contribute to the smooth operation and ongoing development of the Physiotherapy Department.
It is a condition of employment that individuals may be required to work across all Alfred Health sites and services, including weekend and Public Holiday shifts as rostered.
Skills and Qualifications Required
Must possess one of the following qualifications:
11. Certificate III or higher qualification as an Allied Health Assistant, Registered Nurse, Certified Fitness Instructor or Personal Care
12. Diploma, Associate Diploma or higher qualification in a relevant health science area as determined by the Manager
13. Certificate courses in a relevant health science area as determined by the Manager
14. Overseas Allied Health Qualifications – minimum qualification is a completed diploma in a recognised discipline
15. Allied Health undergraduate student in relevant discipline having completed a minimum of one year of study
Following experience and skills desirable:
16. Previous experience within a hospital setting or working with a multidisciplinary health team
17. Clinical experience in Rehabilitation and Aged Care
18. Previous Supervisory responsibility of an area and/or staff members
19. Experience assisting Allied Health Professionals
