We are excited to be looking for the next Mechanical Fitter to join our Yatala Manufacturing Team. This is a crucial role to support the daily and ongoing production capabilities of the site to ensure equipment is repaired and maintained in a safe, compliant, and timely manner.
Reporting to our Engineering and Reliability Manager, you will be a part of a hard-working team that is highly collaborative and takes pride in keeping our machinery and equipment in peak working order.
Working Hours: We have a variety of Day Shift, Afternoon Shift, and Weekend Shifts available. Please indicate which shifts you desire when applying.
Key Responsibilities in the role include: The 'hands on' repairs and maintenance of on-site, mechanical systems or equipment (including their sub-assemblies) whilst adhering to safe systems of work, compliance to food safety, and following engineering standards set out by Real Pet Food Co (RPF). Mechanical maintenance work consisting of both unplanned (reactive or breakdown maintenance) as well as planned (corrective, preventative, or work that is of a rebuild nature) for both offline or online equipment. Ensuring maximum equipment uptime by providing efficient, safe, food-safe, and compliant mechanical maintenance during designated shift coverage (day, afternoon, or night). Being the first point of contact for mechanical maintenance requirements from on-site internal customers (Operations, Safety, Quality, and Engineering), and timely escalation for additional assistance or work outside their remit (e.g., electrical, other specialized trades) in line with 'RPF Escalation Protocols'. Completing any assigned or planned work (corrective, preventative, or work that is of a rebuild nature), and scoping material or additional labor requirements for identified requests for work. Conducting investigations of a technical and mechanical nature, and the immediate escalation and reporting of safety or food safety – near miss reporting, incidents, or hazard reporting. What will help you succeed: Mechanical assembly, fitting, repairing, and maintenance of mechanical systems or equipment, including their mechanical sub-assemblies and components. Ability to receive direction and understand shift, department, site, and/or business priorities and execute in a timely manner for reactive or planned/assigned work from both Production Shift Managers and Maintenance Management. Logical and problem-solving mindset when identifying faults and mechanical troubleshooting. Experience in repair/maintenance in fast-paced environments such as modern manufacturing. Mechanical aptitude and knowledge of mechanical systems such as pneumatic, hydraulic, power transmission, and fluid transfer systems (steam, water, chemical/CIP, etc.). Background knowledge of refrigeration, boilers, compressed air, and advanced waste-water or trade waste treatment plants. Ideally, a Certificate III Mechanical Trade or Cert III Mechanical Trade – Fitter/Machinist; however, a Certificate II or above qualifications in Fluid Power (Pneumatics) or hydraulics is also acceptable. Excellent communication skills, high-level interpersonal skills, and sound judgment. A strong team player, ready to be part of our pack, working collaboratively and cross-functionally.
