Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Manager of Accounting will primarily be responsible for planning and driving the month-end close process for the Company's clinical trial contracts. Candidate will be responsible for assessing, creating, and implementing operational improvements and streamlining existing processes as it relates to clinical trial accounting. Candidate should be detail-oriented, have strong communication skills, foster collaboration, and desire to be part of a team. Candidate should have the ability and desire to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects at once.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
Monitor the financial health of the Company's clinical trials, studies, programs, and related vendor contracts (project specifications, units, invoicing, change orders, accounting, and forecasting)
Build and manage strong relationships with other functions within the Company, including FP&A and Clinical Operations, to ensure that accounting-relevant information is shared and processed in a timely manner, including, but not limited to, information regarding accruals
Prepare and review accounting documentation, such as journal entries and account reconciliations, for clinical trial accruals and prepayments as part of the monthly and quarterly close process, ensure completeness and accuracy of documentation that supports journal entries and account reconciliations to create and maintain an audit trail
Lead execution/utilization of clinical trial tracking system (Auxilius) for current and new clinical trials
Incorporate real-time patient-driven data into clinical trial models
Work with FP&A to perform monthly/quarterly analytical procedures to explain developments and trends of actuals compared to budget/forecast
Assist Clinical Operations team with review of invoices to ensure timely payment of vendors
Assist with the annual audit by interacting directly with the Company's auditors related to clinical trial accruals
Assist with special or ad-hoc projects as well as other finance related matters, as necessary
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA license a plus
7+ years of relevant and progressive experience, with a minimum of 3 years of clinical trial accounting experience
Broad knowledge of accounting principles (US GAAP)
Strong systems skills; experience with NetSuite; proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with clinical trial tracking systems a plus
Ability to follow instructions for multiple projects with competing priorities and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently as well as with other groups across the business
