The Heat and Health Research Centre's purpose is to build resilience to a warming planet across the human lifespan by undertaking research that understands the underlying mechanisms of heat vulnerability.We have an opportunity for a Research Fellow (level B) or Senior Research Fellow (level C) Biostatistician/Epidemiologist to work at the intersection of environmental epidemiology, heat stress and human health.
This position will have a specific focus on the impacts of extreme heat and hot weather on human health outcomes, as well as on all sectors of the community and associated health services.
This position will be based at the Heat and Health Research Centre, Camperdown Campus.Your key responsibilities will be to:Lead day-to-day epidemiological analysis and research activities in the Heat and Health Research CentreEngage in collaborative epidemiological research activities on heat and health with the Leeder Centre for Health Policy, Economics and DataConceive and execute new and high-impact epidemiological research projects on heat and health integrating human physiological modelsConduct advanced statistical and geospatial analysis using linked meteorological, environmental, spatial, physiological and human health dataConduct data preparation and management of spatial, environmental and administrative health datasetsContribute to the development of statistical analysis plans, preparation of results, visualisation and reporting of research to various audiencesCollaborate and liaise with a multidisciplinary team of academics, clinicians, consumers, policy makers and other stakeholdersLead the development of new funding applications, and support other research projects within the CentreUphold professional conduct and standards in all interactions with colleagues and stakeholdersAttend team and project meetings and maintain regular communication with senior project leads and other professional and academic staff within the Centre.Undertake other duties and contribute to projects appropriate within the classification level as required.About youHold a PhD qualification in epidemiology, statistics, biostatistics, public health, geography or a related degree with a strong component in epidemiology or biostatisticsResearch experience in the broad area of environmental epidemiology, preferably with a focus on climate changeA strong track record of first-author publications (or a developing track record for level B) in high-impact international peer-reviewed journalsExperience of grant submissions and external funding acquisitionExperience in data preparation, data management, and analysis of large, population-based linked administrative health and clinical datasetsAdvanced biostatistical analytical skills, e.g., geospatial analysis, multilevel or generalised models, causal inference methodsExcellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills to a wide range of audiencesProven ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team of researchers while demonstrating respect and an understanding of the value other disciplines can contribute to developing comprehensive solutions to complex problems.Pre-employment checksYour employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University.
