Our nominations committee is seeking candidates with backgrounds in real estate development and/or management, business operations and/or management, law, public service (provincial or federal), fundraising, health care services, youth services, and Beacon volunteer experience. The Board of Directors is a governance board that oversees the management of the Society’s activities and internal affairs, including providing strategic direction and overseeing the Society’s operations and financial viability.Regular Board meetings occur 6-7 times a year (currently on Thursday evenings) in addition to a full-day retreat once a year.Board Directors also sit on a minimum of two standing committees, which typically meet 4-6 times a year, depending on the committee’s formal terms of reference and business requirements. Meetings may be more frequent if business issues arise.Current committees (in addition to the Executive Committee and the Nominating Committee) include:Finance and AuditPeople and CultureGovernanceQuality Assurance and ImprovementReal EstateIn addition to standing committees, the Board can create working groups or task groups to focus on specific issues, which include Board members.Terms of OfficeDirectors are elected by the Society’s membership to serve for a 3-year term, with a maximum of 2 consecutive terms. Directors must have and maintain membership in Beacon Community Services (Beacon Community Association) at the time of their formal nomination and throughout their Board service. Directors serve on an unpaid, volunteer basis.Beacon provides access to various relevant professional interest and development opportunities, including paid membership in the Institute of Corporate Directors.Nominations ProcessPlease forward your candidate application form and your CV (if providing one) to board@beaconcs.ca on or before 4:00 pm, March 21, 2025.The Nominations Committee will review all applications based on the skills and needs of the organization. For 2025, the Board is seeking four new members.Experience/background in the following areas are of particular interest: real estate development and/or management, business operations and/or management, law, public service (e.g., provincial or federal), fundraising, health care services, youth services, and Beacon volunteer experience.Diversity and community representation are important to the Beacon Board, and the Nominations Committee encourages applications from those who self-identify as IBPOC, 2SLGBTQ+, or disabled.The Nominations Committee will create a ‘shortlist’ of candidates to interview.When accepting a nomination, the candidate will also consent to a criminal records check and agree to a Code of Conduct.The Nominations Committee will finalize a ‘slate’ of nominees to be presented and elected by the Society’s membership at the Annual General Meeting.
