The Role Our client operates a family-owned mixed livestock business, primarily focusing on sheep, on a 1,600-hectare farm near the small rural township of Caramut, Victoria. The newly expanded farm has 9,000 first-cross ewes, consisting of Border Leicester Merino ewes crossed with White Suffolk or Dorset rams and 400 Nudie ewes. Additionally, the farm runs 200 trade cattle. The farm specialises in finishing most of its lambs for the fat lamb market, emphasising high-quality pasture and animal health. They utilise Agriwebb for livestock management. Each year, 200 hectares are dedicated to summer fodder crops and new pastures to support lamb finishing. The equipment is well-maintained, featuring a new John Deere tractor and Greenstar auto steer in the tractors. This family-run operation consists of two family members and hires casual labour and contractors during peak seasons. Contractors are brought in for stock work tasks, such as pregnancy scanning, crutching, and shearing. The farm boasts excellent infrastructure, including a large central laneway, undercover sheep yards, and an advanced three-way drafting system. The senior farmhand will be required to work independently or as part of a team, overseeing all day-to-day activities related to sheep farming. Responsibilities include stock handling in yards and paddocks with working dogs, operating machinery such as excavators and tractors for sowing, hay and silage production, feeding, fencing, and general farm maintenance. Weekend work may be required, and a minimum of five years of experience in a similar role in sheep production is necessary.
