About the role
Ventia is currently seeking to employ a collaborative and engaging Commercial Manager on the Department of Justice contract to deliver key commercial outcomes. This role can be located at our offices either in Perth, Sydney or Adelaide with flexible working options. This role will report to the Project Director /Commercial Director.
Working as an integral part of the Department of Justice contract team, this position is primarily responsible for ensuring the project is compliant, at a high-quality level, on-time and on-budget. In addition, this role will ensure all compliance, commercial and legal aspects associated with the contract are preserved and/or improved focusing on conformance and performance, to deliver contractual obligations and objectives.
The successful applicant will need to be an Australian Citizen in order to secure a government security clearance with the Department of Justice.
Key duties but not limited to
1. Provide sound guidance and advise on a wide range of commercial work relating to, but not limited to, contract entitlement, claims and disputes
2. Reviewing the financial position of the contract and identifying any potential risks or gaps in the contracts performance or revenue recovery, investigating these and developing strategies and implementing corrective actions as needed
3. Review, provide advice and propose drafting in relation to contract terms and conditions or departures with input from sector commercial and legal team as required
4. Prepare variations to the contract as necessary, negotiating contract extension and leveraging additional work to maximize the value of the contract agreement
5. Maintain the commercial register and communicating key milestones and deadlines
6. Addressing deviation or issues promptly and working towards resolving these in a timely manner
7. Communicating with stakeholders such as operations managers and project directors to monitor issues and provide recommendations before issues escalate
Skills and experience
8. Tertiary qualification in Business, Law, Finance or Commerce is preferred
9. Significant experience in negotiation and communication skills
10. Strategic thinker and high level of decision making abilities
11. Knowledge of Commercial/Contract requirements, principles and practices (incl. budgets)
12. High level of computer skills and report writing (including MS Word, Excel & PowerPoint and other software programs)
13. Significant experience in contract/commercial preparation and negotiation
14. Demonstrated experience in collaborative and consultative processes at a professional level, engaging within contract and client groups
15. Ability to work flexibly and adaptively in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders
16. Excellent knowledge/interpretation of Laws; Contracts; Acts; Regulations and Standards
17. This position also requires you to obtain a National Police Clearance check.
