About the Role
We are currently looking for passionate, motivated and experienced Commis Chefs to join our kitchen team on a casual basis. Our kitchen team supports separate outlets within the hotel, Conference & Events, Zebu Restaurant and Bar, in addition to room service orders.
Reporting to the Executive Chef, the Commis Chefs will be responsible for assisting with the management of kitchen operations. The role will provide essential support to the Sous Chef and kitchen team with menu development, managing costs and driving revenue.
The successful candidate will have a passion for delivering high quality products and experiences for our guests, excellent communication skills, and be a team player who works well with others by leading from the front with a positive attitude.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare and present menu items to a high level
* Work with and coordinate the work of chefs and apprentices in the preparation and production of food
* Coordinate the stewarding team to ensure all kitchen hygiene and safety procedures are followed
* Assist with menu preparation and ensure adequate supplies are available for service
* Supervise the kitchen in the absence of senior chefs, delegating duties and responsibilities as necessary
Skills and Experience
* At least 3-4 years previous experience as a Commis Chef – hotel experience highly regarded
* An extremely high standard of food preparation, presentation and service
* An up-to-date knowledge of current and emerging food trends
* Excellent hygiene and food safety standards with knowledge of HACCP processes
* Flexibility to work as required across multiple kitchens with a variety of shifts in a 24/7 operation
* Excellent grooming and presentation
* The ability to handle pressure, multi-task and get the job done
* Demonstrated passion and creativity within your craft
* Possesses self-motivation and an ability to work autonomously
* Certificate III in Commercial Cookery
* Completion of cookery apprenticeship
