Our client Milcom Communications Pty Limited is seeking a skilled Computer Network and Systems Engineer to join their team at their West Melbourne campus. The successful candidate will play a vital role in managing, supporting, and optimizing our network infrastructure across various departments within the education institution. This role also involves training and coaching students on the principles of computer networks and systems, preparing them for real-world scenarios.
You will ensure seamless communication, security, and efficient operations of their IT systems, while providing technical solutions and ensuring our staff, students, and external stakeholders have uninterrupted access to learning resources. As part of the education-focused IT team, you will also support the academic programs by offering guidance and practical knowledge to students pursuing IT and networking courses.

Key Responsibilities:
* Network and System Management: Manage and maintain the computer networks and systems across multiple departments, including classrooms, labs, admin, accounting, and education platforms, ensuring all systems are integrated with the main infrastructure and perform optimally in a higher education setting.
* Student Training & Coaching: Provide guidance and technical training to students enrolled in IT and networking programs. Deliver hands-on coaching and workshops on virtual network platforms, troubleshooting, and maintenance, supporting their practical learning experience.
* Network Systems Analysis: Regularly analyze the institution’s network architecture, ensuring seamless integration and communication between various campuses and remote learning environments.
* Software & Hardware Upgrades: Coordinate the upgrade of necessary software and hardware across all educational facilities, including labs and administrative offices. This involves remote installation, testing, and troubleshooting across interstate locations.
* IT Infrastructure Support: Document and maintain inventory of all hardware and software assets, ensuring that upgrades and new equipment purchases align with the needs of the educational programs and receive approval from the IT Manager.
* Network Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve network issues across various systems and devices (more than 70 across all branches), ensuring minimal interruptions to student learning and staff operations.
* Network Architecture Testing: Conduct regular testing and monitoring of network performance to ensure optimal connectivity, especially for classrooms, remote learning systems, and digital exam platforms.
* Deployment of New Hardware: Oversee the installation of new hardware for classrooms, labs, and administrative departments. Ensure that IT resources are readily available and functioning for teaching and administrative purposes.
* Support for Educational Software: Install and update in-house proprietary software used in teaching, accounting systems, and learning management systems, ensuring students and faculty can efficiently use the tools for educational purposes.
* Provide Training and Mentorship to the Students: Provide training and mentorship to students on industry practices, including system architecture, network security, and troubleshooting techniques. By providing coaching, you will support students in their academics and assessments, ensuring they understand the complexities of network systems and fostering a learning environment where students feel empowered.
* Collaboration with Academic Staff: Work closely with the teaching faculty to develop and implement IT systems and tools that enhance student learning experiences, ensuring classrooms and labs are equipped with the latest technology and software.
Requirements:
* Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related field, with a focus on networking or systems engineering.
* Experience: Minimum three (3) years of experience in network management within an education or corporate environment. Previous experience working with students or in an academic setting is an advantage.
* Technical Skills: Strong understanding of LAN/WAN infrastructure, network security, firewall management, cloud-based solutions, and educational technology.
* Certifications: CCNA/CCNP or similar networking certifications are highly regarded.
* Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex network and system issues efficiently.
* Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including students and academic staff.
* Teamwork: Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team, supporting educational and administrative functions.
