About the role
The Regional Officer will conduct a range of routine and sometimes more complex compliance monitoring activities and inspections as authorised under the Australian Consumer Law and Fair-Trading Act, and other legislation administered by CAV. The Regional Officer will carry out residential tenancy investigations including rental assessments and non-urgent repairs as delegated under the Residential Tenancies Act. Furthermore, the Regional Officer will perform front line dispute resolution, provide business and community education, and lead or coordinate CAV campaign initiatives.
The Regional Officer role is based in the Northwest Melbourne Metropolitan Region and will outreach to other locations across the region including but not limited to Werribee, Melton, and inner Melbourne as required.
Key accountabilities include
Participate in and contribute to aspects of compliance programs, including local planning and development of outreach activities and their implementation.
Using standardised tools, carry out routine, straightforward, and sometimes more complex inspections as authorised under the Australian Consumer Law & Fair-Trading Act and the Residential Tenancies Act. This can include obtaining evidence for use in legal proceedings as directed by CAV, as well as issuing infringement notices.
Under general direction, deliver business and consumer education sessions consistent with CAV program priorities and regional needs.
Undertake front line dispute resolution by using negotiation and problem-solving skills to address consumers and renters' concerns in line with CAV policy and escalate complex matters where appropriate whilst continuing to provide support.
There are 2 positions available: one ongoing position and one fixed-term position available for 18 months. The work location for these positions is Northwest Metropolitan Melbourne.
About you
To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate:
Experience in compliance and inspection operations including the planning, development, and delivery of outreach activities based on business plans and policies.
Demonstrated experience in the preparation of reports and the drafting of correspondence that provides clear and purposeful communication.
Ability to develop and maintain productive relations with internal and external key stakeholders.
Knowledge of, and/or relevant experience in legislative compliance and enforcement activities and CAV relevant legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures OR capacity to learn and apply the knowledge, as required.
A Certificate IV in Government Investigations or equivalent qualification is desirable or be prepared to attain the qualification soon after job commencement.
Mandatory requirements
Tertiary qualifications in commerce, business, law, or other related fields are desirable.
A current Victorian Driver's Licence is required.
