It involves developing and implementing low-power, through-the-earth communications systems. Additionally, the role requires providing thought leadership within Orica, focusing on novel communications protocols to achieve commercial objectives.What you will be doingSafety is critical throughout Orica. In the SHES (Safety, Health, Environment, and Security) domain, your primary responsibilities include ensuring all tasks and activities are completed safely and in compliance with Orica’s SHES policies. Experience in communications will ensure product development in your area meets Orica’s SHES requirements.For project-related tasks, the focus is on utilizing strong technical expertise in communications to develop and implement accurate project plans for novel low-frequency through-the-earth communication systems. This also includes assisting with the preparation of documentation to justify investment decisions, ensuring that all aspects of the project are well-documented and supported.Technical responsibilities are centred around developing and optimizing algorithms for Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and communication systems. This includes tasks such as digital filtering, spectral analysis, and signal enhancement. Other core tasks involve developing network simulation models, executing test plans, troubleshooting technical issues, and implementing communication system architectures. A strong foundation in mathematics and a keen eye for risk assessment and safety documentation are also essential for these roles.What you will bringKey Requirements:Engineering or Science degree and significant relevant work experience, minimum 5 years (or recent PhD graduate) in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Wireless Telecommunications, Digital Signal Processing, or closely related field.Experience in developing and verifying signal processing algorithms for low-power systems.Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving skills.Demonstrated flexibility in approach and ability to engage across multiple levels of an organisation.Experience with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, arbitrary waveform generator, and logic analyser.Preferred:A PhD, with working experience in any of the telecommunications, consumer electronics, defence, mining/blasting, or research industries will be highly regarded.Product Development experience in the electronics space, with proficiency in MATLAB, Python, Octave, or other high-level languages is advantageous.What we offerAs part of a truly global company, you will have the ability to grow and learn in a diverse, collaborative culture.
