The City of Mandurah is looking for people who are self-motivated, reliable and has a positive can-do attitude to kick-start their career in the horticultural trade.
As an apprentice you will complete a nationally recognised qualification (AHC31021 Certificate III in Parks and Gardens) while gaining practical knowledge and skills in horticulture such as garden bed and lawn maintenance, cultivating soil, fertilising, planting, operating tools, pruning, weeding and constructing garden beds, paths and fences.
What does the ideal candidate bring to City of Mandurah?
* School leavers: OLNA or NAPLAN 9 Band 8
* Non-school leavers: C Grades in Year 10 English and Maths or a completion of a Certificate II in a related discipline
* Genuine interest in the horticultural trade
* Current unrestricted C class national driver’s licence
* Physically fit and capable of undertaking manual tasks
* High level of attention to detail
* Self-motivated and keen to learn
* Ability to problem solve
* Be a confident communicator
* Ability to follow instructions and take direction from Team Leader/Supervisor
* A strong team player
* Basic knowledge of horticultural tools
* Reliable and hardworking
* Computer skills with the ability to operate software programs, tablets and mobile devices
* Ability to organise own work and apply time management principles
The finer details
This fulltime position attracts a starting salary of $31,650 gross per annum for a junior or $52,750 gross per annum for an adult. The apprenticeship is 3 years in duration and is located at the Council’s Operations Centre on Park Road. Successful applicants will need to obtain their white card prior to commencing and be willing and able to travel to our Southern Operations Centre in Dawesville.
