If these opportunities appeal to you but the job is unfamiliar, here are a few of the day-to-day duties and expectations of a Smelter Operator:
7. Each shift starts with a toolbox meeting with your Supervisor and team-mates where you discuss safety, priorities for the day and tasks to ensure production occurs in a safe and efficient manner.
8. Monitoring processes to ensure there are no safety hazards and the equipment is running efficiently
9. Perform routines involving computerised, electronic and remote-controlled equipment, manual handling, machinery operation and working in hot environments.
10. Working with engineers, trades, maintenance crews and contractor groups to help problem solve and implement ideas to help bring safety improvements and efficiencies to the business.
11. Participate in various work-place programs around health and safety, wellness, inclusion and volunteering.
Throughout all these tasks you will be supported and mentored on the job by experienced fellow operators as you learn the ropes. There is room to grow and take on extra responsibility as your knowledge and skills develop.
About you
To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking someone with:
12. The ability to learn new skills and follow safe work instructions
13. To be fit and able to work in a practical / hands-on work environment
14. A dedicated approach to work
15. High Risk work licence - Forklift & Crane preferred but not essential.
16. Flexibility is required, as the role is a 12-hour rotating shift roster.
17. Basic computer literacy
18. A current driver’s licence
19. Problem solving ability
20. Well-developed problem solving, communication and interpersonal skills
21. A high level of self-sufficiency and initiative to work both independently and as part of a team, and
22. Commitment to the environment, health and safety in the workplace; with strong values toward working safely and care towards oneself and others.
