APS 6 - $95,438 - $108,360 Australian Antarctic Hobart - TAS, Kingston - TAS The Station Cargo Capabilities Team Lead is a critical role within the AAD’s Supply Chain Operations, working to forecast and facilitate return to Australia (RTA) cargo in support of the Australian Antarctic Program (AAP). The position engages regularly with the Station Supply Officers and a wide range of internal and external stakeholders in the lead-up to and throughout the operational season. Who we are The Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) is part of the Commonwealth Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water. As primary agency for Australia's Antarctic Program (AAP), the AAD is responsible for achieving the Australian Government's Antarctic goals. These goals are to: Maintain the Antarctic Treaty System and enhance Australia's influence within it. Protect the Antarctic environment. Understand the role of Antarctica in the global climate system. Undertake scientific work of practical, economic and national significance. The AAD also has responsibility for administering the Australian Antarctic Territory and the Territory of Heard Island and McDonald Islands. The Operations and Logistics Branch oversees our operations in Antarctica – supporting people in our year-round research stations and remote field bases. The branch oversees air and sea transport (and the contracts to manage Australia’s icebreaker, the RSV Nuyina and Aviation capabilities) to transport expeditioners south and enable them to travel around Antarctica. We have staff with diverse skills, located primarily in Tasmania, in Antarctica and on Macquarie Island. The Supply Chain Operations Section is a key element of the branch’s three logistics arms (the others being aviation and shipping) and carries responsibility for the effective planning, coordination, management and delivery of a range of cargo and supply chain services in support of seasonal operations within the Antarctic, sub-Antarctic and the Southern Ocean. The Job Key duties will include, but are not limited to: Supporting the Assistant Director – Station Cargo Capabilities in leading the Station Supply Officer team effectively, maintaining succinct cargo planning documentation and seasonal communications, delegating tasks between team members, and providing guidance on resupply operations. Assisting with annual expeditioner recruitment activities, onboarding and training including the maintenance of Station Supply Officer training materials, and ongoing pastoral care and support for Station Supply Officers. Engaging proactively with internal and external stakeholders to develop, review and maintain seasonal Return to Australia (RTA) cargo forecasts against evolving needs and within time constraints. Advocating for the Station Supply Officers and representing their requirements to internal and external stakeholders at the AAD’s head office. Working collaboratively with the AAD Environmental Management Unit and other AAD stakeholders to contribute to the development and implementation of the Return to Australia Plan (RTA Plan) for the removal of all material not required at Australian Stations, and the Waste Management Strategy for the ongoing reduction and sustainable management of current and future waste streams at Australian Stations as required under the Initial Environmental Evaluation (IEE). Drawing upon solid project management experience, working proactively with Station Supply Officers, Maritime Operations, Aviation, and Station leadership teams for the planning, phasing and implementation of priority supply chain preparations which impact the effectiveness of station resupply operations. Providing clear, specific guidance to Station Supply Officers on sensitive cargo (i.e. samples, medical or cold chain items) against forecast capacities and in accordance with procedures. Coordinating and facilitating the development, maintenance, and replenishment of operational equipment and consumables required by the Station Supply Officers to facilitate safe and efficient operations and cargo movements. Participating in the systematic annual review of the AAD’s cargo and waste Standard Operating Procedures and biosecurity management practices. Actively contributing to the safe working environments at all AAD cargo handling and warehousing facilities and fostering the safety culture within the team. Advising on risks related to the provision of core Supply Chain Operations services, opportunities for improvements and asset developments potentially impacting supply chain management, considering ramifications and longer-term impacts. What we are looking for We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate the following: Knowledge and experience Demonstrated experience and expertise in cargo or resource management and planning, including preparing forecasts and program requirements within known constraints and with a high degree of attention to detail. Experience in driving innovative practices through the development and delivery of operational products and services, effectively utilising individual and team capabilities. Strong experience in a professional supply chain team, including demonstrated experience in the effective management of personnel, valuing differences and diversity, supporting a harmonious work environment and providing regular, constructive feedback to reports. Familiarity with cargo tracking/management systems, and confidence in analysing data, deriving insights and providing evidence-based recommendations. An awareness of the requirements for the preparation of dangerous goods for transport by air and/or sea in compliance with relevant Australian and International standards (e.g., the IATA and/or IMDG codes). Previous experience working in a supply chain role in Antarctica or a comparable cold climate environment is highly desirable but not essential. Skills and capabilities A proven ability to communicate in a concise, articulate and persuasive manner, and to build and sustain strong working relationships, with a wide range of key stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to undertake objective, systematic analysis to identify problems and work to resolve them, to critically evaluate options, including identifying and assessing risks. Established proficiency with contemporary cargo handling or warehouse systems and a demonstrated teaching capacity throughout a wider organisation for these systems. A demonstrated ability to drive meaningful change, the ability to thrive and maintain a positive attitude in ambiguous situations, and to support a diverse and inclusive workplace. Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Word, Excel). In order to undertake travel to the Antarctic & sub-Antarctic regions they will need to: Demonstrate the range of personal qualities and interpersonal skills necessary to perform as a successful team member within isolated Antarctic and sub-Antarctic environments. Demonstrate an ability to effectively adapt and respond to the demands of living and working in an isolated and confined environment as determined by a psychological (adaptability) assessment. Be certified as fit for Antarctic service by the AAD’s Polar Medicine Unit. SSAA Screening – This position is classified as a Safety Sensitive Aviation Activity and will require SSAA drug and alcohol screening as part of the pre-employment medical assessment. MSIC and ASIC Licences – If the position requires unescorted access within an aviation or maritime security zone, you will be required to obtain and maintain an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC) or Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC). Desirable qualifications A tertiary qualification from an Australian tertiary institution within a relevant field (i.e. supply chain or project management) or demonstrated equivalent experience. Security Clearance - this position requires a Baseline Vetting security clearance. You will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.
