About the Opportunity
We are looking for an accomplished Senior Safety leader to join our team and will be responsible for leading the SHE function and team that supports the Independent Hardware Group (IHG) business pillar. Your role will lead a team of safety managers across Australia to support the IHG business to execute and continuously improve SHE culture, governance, compliance and performance. This will cover IHG retail sites (manufacturing sites, trade centres and retail stores), both 100% owned entities and majority-owned joint ventures. The role also supports IHG franchisees as required with the development and uplift of their SHE frameworks and processes.
In this Role
1. SHE Role and Leadership: Support IHG in understanding the roles of the SHE team and IHG, take ownership of the “execute” role, and model safety leadership and behaviors.
2. Execution of SHE Strategic Initiatives: Lead or oversee the implementation of SHE strategic initiatives, offering guidance and support to IHG as needed.
3. SHE Governance and Compliance: Assist in the development and improvement of the SHE Management System, including standards, frameworks, and related tools (e.g., SWOPs, JSEAs, VOC).
4. SHE Risk Management: Work with IHG to understand SHE risk profiles and critical risks, and support the development and maintenance of Site Risk Registers and risk control processes.
5. Training and Development: Facilitate and support SHE training for IHG Retail & Manufacturing operations and help maintain a Training Needs Analysis.
6. Incident and Injury Management: Monitor incidents, ensuring proper investigation and root cause analysis, sharing learnings across teams, and driving initiatives for injury and incident reduction.
7. Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with IHG operational leaders and front-line teams to drive improved SHE culture, compliance, and performance.
8. Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the IHG SHE team, fostering collaboration and engagement within the broader Metcash SHE team.
You’re Likely a Match If
* Tertiary qualifications in SHE or a related discipline such as legal or sciences.
* Strong understanding of relevant Australian safety, health and environmental legislation including national heavy vehicle legislation/CoR.
* Solid technical knowledge of SHE, risk management, workers compensation and injury management frameworks and best practice.
* Prior experience in safety within front line operational environments.
* Extensive SHE management experience at both strategic and operational levels.
* Experience leading change, continuous improvement and providing advice and guidance.
