About Freedom Solutions
Freedom Solutions Australia operates across NSW and Victoria. It is a volunteer-based, not-for-profit organisation providing assistive technology solutions and occupational therapy services for people living with disability and older people. For over 40 years we have been a valued stakeholder in the disability services sector, enabling our clients to achieve their goals through the:
* Design and construction of custom assistive technology otherwise commercially unavailable;
* Modification of commercially available equipment to suit clients’ individual needs;
* Freedom Wheels customised Bike Service; and
* Provision of specialised technical advice to clients.
About the Role:
This role, based in Northmead, NSW, will be servicing our Freedom Wheels team and will work with staff, volunteers, and treating therapists located in metro Melbourne and regional Victoria, to deliver Freedom Wheels trials. This position is responsible for assessing clients’ needs prior to and during trials to ensure they receive the highest quality care and outcomes.
The role emphasises community engagement and presenting in-service education services to occupational therapy groups, physiotherapists, and special schools.
Key Responsibilities:
Freedom Wheels
* Plan and coordinate bike trials to assess the support needs of our clients to provide prescriptions for customised bikes.
* Plan and conduct trials with consideration of our clients’ physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities.
* Establish rapport with clients and create a safe and supportive therapeutic environment.
* Deliver off-site Melbourne Metro trial days.
* Travel to regional areas to run trials including Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Mornington Peninsula & Gippsland, and wider areas: Warrnambool, Mildura, Shepparton, Albury/Wodonga.
Sports Day and Community Engagement
* Develop partnerships with other providers in the disability and aged care sector.
* Prepare and present in-service education pieces to large and multi-site occupational therapy groups and physiotherapists.
* Provide support to the Inclusive Sports Day Manager, as required, to facilitate Community Inclusive Sports Days and be comfortable traveling to Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, and Mornington Peninsula to participate in those days.
* Support the development of partnership programs with organisations such as specialist disability schools.
Qualifications and Experience:
* Bachelor’s in Health Science or Diploma/Certificate IV in Leisure and Health (or similar qualifications).
* Relevant experience working with people with disabilities.
* Experience working with wheelchairs will be highly regarded.
* Strong clinical skills and a solid theoretical knowledge base in Allied Health.
* Excellent communication and organizational skills.
* Ability to relate to clients from diverse social and cultural backgrounds.
* Experience in a health and/or not-for-profit environment is highly desirable.

We are looking for someone who has a passion for recreation and enabling others to live active and full lives. We are looking for someone who has a bachelor’s in health science, Diploma or Cert IV in Leisure and Health or similar qualifications. We are willing to look at others who have qualifications outside of the ones mentioned if they have relevant experience.
We would like to emphasise the importance of having a strong and enthusiastic communicator to lead our community engagement programs and deliver presentations about our bikes and services to referrers, special schools, and aged care providers.
You will have excellent planning and organisation skills as well as the ability to relate to clients from diverse backgrounds. You will have strong communication skills and a solid understanding of allied health practices.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake a Working with Children Check as well as an NDIS screening Check.
