About the role
Exciting new position with Commonwealth funding on a national pathogen surveillance grant.
The Epidemiologist position will be appointed within the Microbiology Infectious Diseases (MID) Directorate, SA Pathology. The person will lead core data collection, management, analysis and reporting to define the characteristics of notifiable diseases among patients in the SA community. The epidemiologist will work with other specialists to design and implement interventions to reduce infections and to limit the spread of pathogens including resistant organism within the hospitals and community. Activities will include surveillance of healthcare associated infections, monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs) and evaluation of interventions. In addition, the person would be expected to build capacity for enhanced data collection to cope with surge demand, for example, managing a major contact trace of staff and patients exposed to a transmissible pathogen such as COVID-19.
The epidemiologist will complement existing specialists within the Microbiology and Infectious Diseases directorate, physicians, clinical microbiologists, MID pathogen genomic scientists, infection control practitioners and pharmacists.

Essential Requirements:

14. Immunisation screening as indicated in the role description. SA Health Services are required to implement the Addressing vaccine preventable disease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccination policy in the workplace.
Educational/Vocational Qualifications
15. Undergraduate degree in relevant discipline such as science, medical or health science, nursing, pharmacy or similar.
16. Post-graduate qualifications: Masters level (at least) in public health, epidemiology or biostatistics.
