EY-ROAM is a leading provider of electricity market modelling services in Australia. Our role in the energy industry is to provide evidence-based insights, enabling our clients to make informed decisions amidst uncertainty and change. Our software is flexible and can be applied in any electricity market or power system globally. Our clients span the full spectrum of the supply chain including renewable generation developers, energy sector investors, transmission and distribution network service providers, retailers, regulators, and government departments.
What’s in it for you?
We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic senior software and data model developer to join the EY‑ROAM team in Brisbane, Sydney or Perth within EY’s Strategy and Transactions practice.
As a custodian of our proprietary modelling suite, you will support our client facing staff by overseeing continuous improvement of our software tools, data sets and data feeds relating to commercial variables, weather and energy resource information and electricity market operations and trading. You will take the initiative on a range of crucial software and IT innovation programmes to help ensure we retain and extend our market leading status. You will also support the development of software and data sets for emerging new service offerings and contribute to unique software development and data analysis requests for client specific engagements.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate high quality analytical and creative problem solving skills, be well organised and have the ability to manage competing priorities, be able to team effectively with client facing staff and be prepared to rapidly expand their understanding of modelling energy markets and be comfortable working in a fast-paced consulting environment.
In parallel, you will have the opportunity to target your learning and development towards your key areas of interest.
What we’re looking for
Here’s our ‘wish list’ but don’t worry if you don’t tick all the boxes. We’re interested in your strengths, what you want to learn, and how far you want to go.
1. Relevant tertiary education in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science, data science, information systems or information technology or a similar discipline. Additional qualifications in the fields of power systems and electricity markets would be an advantage, but not a requirement.
2. At least 3 years of experience in a relevant field.
3. Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to successfully identify and translate the requirements of internal stakeholders into mature, efficient, serviceable, and scalable software tools.
4. High level numeracy skills with demonstrated experience in manipulating, querying, investigating, and analysing large data sets efficiently in order to finding meaning and develop compelling data visualisations.
5. An understanding of, or keen willingness to learn about the structure, key drivers and rules relevant to electricity market operations and planning.
6. Demonstrated ability to document business requirements, technical requirements, and business processes.
7. A demonstrated understanding of software development principles and an ability to apply them in practice.
8. From an application perspective: We work in a MS Windows and Azure development environment Strong experience with SQL and Python is a core requirement Experience with Microsoft Excel and VBA, C++ and C# is highly desirable Experience with Web API architecture, Angular or similar would be considered advantageous but is not required. Proficiency in primary interaction with SQL database engines and database server management and data structure design is highly desirable, but not a requirement.
