We are seeking an experienced Health and Safety Manager to join our senior leadership team in TAS, reporting to the Operations Manager Railton. You will partner with leaders at Railton and Cornwall Coal to achieve continuous improvement in safe and sustainable operations. In this diverse role, you'll be influencing the safety culture of sites that operate open cut limestone and underground/open cut coal mining, clinkering and cement processing and have rail and ship terminals. You'll get involved in the hands-on, day-to-day support as well as provide higher-level strategic leadership and direction to line leaders and the general workforce. This role is not for someone who is happy to just go through the motions and work with what we already have in place. We are looking for you to identify opportunities, drive change and have a true impact on health, safety, and productivity in our business. About the role: Coach, mentor, assist, challenge and guide site leaders in safety and related issues Provide professional advice to leaders in risk management, using internal frameworks Stimulate improvements in the safety culture by championing issues and engaging all employees and contractors in dialogue Provide advice on requirements to manage and implement SHEQ Management System Ensure relevant training needs analyses are maintained for compliance training and support delivery Communicate and facilitate the implementation of safety best practices Recommend strategic and tactical safety improvements Personally lead investigations for all high-level incidents Monitor business-specific safety legislation and regulatory requirements to ensure it is incorporated into corporate and site systems and communicated to all site personnel Plan for successful site shutdowns and provide technical safety input to other projects Manage industrial hygiene, employee health, return to work and rehabilitation Manage operations security, ensuring risk profile is effectively managed In partnership with senior leaders, liaise with relevant government and industry bodies Support the internal/external audit program About you: Experience leading safety in a complex / heavy industrial setting, ideally including coal mining Degree qualified with a Diploma in Workplace Health and Safety as a minimum Demonstrated understanding and experience interpreting Workplace Health and Safety and Environmental Legislation Experience in maintaining a management system certified to ISO 14001, ISO 9001 and ISO 45001 and ISO 31000 Skillset that includes highly developed communication, influencing and coaching skills Experience with rehabilitation and return to work preferred Experience with a range of areas within the broader "safety" e.g. health, compliance Ability to build relationships at all levels of the business Understanding of budgeting and project management is desirable Ability to travel between sites in Railton and Fingal Why work for Cement Australia?
