APS6 - Senior Technical Assessment Officer, Vehicle Safety Operations The Road & Vehicle Safety Division aims to improve road safety and reduce road trauma for all Australians.The division has four main functions: setting the policy direction for road safety through the National Road Safety Strategy 2021-30 and National Road Safety Action Plan 2023-25; delivering targeted road safety programs; developing and maintaining the Road Vehicle Standards Act 2018 (RVSA) and other legislative instruments and vehicle standards; and regulating the first provision of vehicles in the Australian market including vehicle certification, imports, enforcement and vehicle recalls.The Vehicle Safety Operations Branch administers the RVSA and the Road Vehicle Standards Rules 2019 (together the RVS legislation), which sets vehicle standards for all new vehicles entering the Australian market and regulates the supply of used vehicles to the market, establishes a Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV) and establishes a framework for recalling unsafe road vehicles and approved road vehicle components.The Technical Assessment & Approvals section undertakes a range of activities in relation to the assessment of a variety of application types under the Road Vehicle Standards Act 2018 (RVSA).What will you do?A Senior Technical Assessment Officer position will provide you with an opportunity to collaborate and engage with a range of stakeholders to quickly develop an understanding of the RVS legislation requirements and apply them to your day-to-day role.Senior Technical Assessment Officers will work closely with subject matter experts to ensure the required application processes are followed and decisions are communicated to stakeholders in a timely and appropriate manner.On an ongoing basis, technical assessment officers may also be tasked to undertake policy development and regulatory improvement activities, as well as participate in vehicle standards update and review.Duties include: Application assessment under the RVS legislation by leveraging technical expertise and knowledge of legislative framework requirements.Development of vehicle safety policy, procedures and standards.Liaison with stakeholders relating to applications, policy and standards, and the development of responses to written requests for information.Providing leadership and guidance to a team of technical assessors, ensuring all processes and procedures are followed.Providing technical input and advice to other assessors and sections within the branch.Contributing to risk-based assurance or review activities, such as audits.Analysis and assessment of information from assurance or review activities and drafting recommendations for decision makers.Liaison with industry and government agencies, including state and territory regulators, other Australian Government agencies and ANCAP.Developing written reports, publications, briefings, correspondence, and technical papers on complex issues.
