The Role
Your primary purpose in this position is:
6. To maintain Council’s Fleet and Plant (including light equipment) to industry accepted standards and to ensure that fleet downtime is kept to a minimum.
7. To take a leadership role in supervising apprentices as required and to mentor less experienced mechanics.
Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Vehicle Servicing & Maintenance
8. Ensure Council vehicles, plant and light equipment is maintained and serviced in accordance with OEM manufacturer’s specifications and RWC standards.
9. Ensure Business Units and other Departments are not unnecessarily delayed due to down time on servicing or repairing of plant items.
10. Participate in a breakdown emergency callout service (as required).
Operational
11. Maintain cleanliness and serviceability of workshop, tools and workshop equipment.
12. Supervise apprentices and work experience students when working with them.
13. Ensure repair job sheets are raised via the electronic Fleet Management Information System (FMIS) and correctly costed and documented.
14. Responsible for maintenance of correct stock levels for scheduled servicing raising purchase orders for spare parts and verifying goods received against ordered items.
15. Organise duty rosters, eg: early morning starts and callout service, etc
Business Unit Responsibilities
16. Undertake Emergency Management duties as required,
17. Maintain the strictest confidentiality regarding ratepayers, customers, and employees,

To be considered for this role you should have:
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
21. Victorian Drivers licence
22. Heavy Vehicle Drivers licence.
23. Trade Certificate (Diesel Mechanic)
24. Arc, Oxygen, and Mig welding experience
25. Good understanding of all vehicles' Roadworthy and plant safety regulations.
26. Extensive experience in servicing and repairing trucks and agricultural equipment.
27. Team Player: Must work effectively in a team and be committed to public service.
28. Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication
29. Interpersonal skills: Ability to advise, liaise and negotiate.
30. Ability to commit to rosters with a proven track record of good attendance and punctuality.
Desirable:
31. Hydraulic and pneumatic experience.
32. Computer and administration skills.
33. Forklift/loader licence.
