Job: 2025-949128 | Part Time | Fixed Term (June 2025) | Redfern, NSW The Aboriginal Legal Service (ALS) was established in a critical act of self-determination over 50 years ago as part of the Aboriginal rights protest movement. We provide high-quality, culturally safe legal and support services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people throughout NSW and the ACT, and fight for social justice and equity for our communities. What will you do? In this role, you will be an integral and valued member of a highly skilled and high-performing Women’s Bail Advocacy Program (WBAP) team, within the Criminal Law Practice. You will assist our multidisciplinary team in delivering the WBAP, which advocates for appropriate bail conditions for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islands women to reduce avoidable remand and provides trauma-informed wrap-around support to Women in contact with the criminal legal system. Each day, you can expect to: Undertake administrative tasks within the WBAP, including opening new files, drafting, and filing applications, and communicating with clients and their families, rehabilitation facilities, and other relevant service providers all within agreed timeframes. Organise client files and documentation including input of data into client databases, including opening, closing, archiving files and other general data entry. Liaise with Police, Solicitors, Court Staff, Corrective Services staff, WBAP staff, other ALS staff members, and stakeholders for specified tasks as requested by solicitors or the WBAP manager, including sending briefs, confirming dates, and making appointments. Prepare correspondence, affidavits, court reports and other documents using MS Office. Undertake legal research or program-specific research and data analysis as directed. Assist clients to meet their non-legal support needs and make and follow-up referrals to appropriate support services. Who are we looking for? You are a highly skilled and motivated individual with a thorough understanding of the cultural, social, and historical needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. You will be able to demonstrate: Previous experience working in a legal practice or currently studying a degree in Law or a related field. Commitment to the principles of social justice. Capacity to behave in a culturally appropriate manner. Proven computer systems skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook and typing skills with a minimum of 35 wpm. Excellent phone manners and communication skills. Demonstrated organisational and time management skills and the ability to multi-task and work accurately. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and work independently in a team environment with limited supervision.
