Dux and Dr. Hannah Filmer, studying attention, training, cognitive control, theory of mind, and task performance using behavioural and neuroimaging techniques.Project Summary:Attention control (AC) is the ability to maintain task focus while resisting distraction. It determines how people perform in the face of cognitive demand – a critical capability across civilian and military contexts. The project will use behavioural studies, neuroimaging, brain stimulation and computational modelling to establish: (1) What determines whether AC is reflexive or flexible, and how we can optimise this balance for task performance; (2) How to predict and prevent failures of AC before they occur; (3) How do we train AC abilities to enhance performance.These are full-time, fixed-term positions commencing early 2025. One position is available for 12 months, the other is available for 24 months.Key responsibilities will include:Research: Develop a research program and emerging research profile, collaborate on research projects, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals and utilise best practice research methodologies.Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students and provide performance feedback, mentoring and training.Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.These are research-focused positions. Further information can be found by viewing UQ's Criteria for Academic Performance.About YouSuccessful candidates will possess:Completion or near completion of a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience.An emerging profile in research in cognitive neuroscience with experience in MRI, EEG, Brain stimulation, training and individual differences research (online testing is also a big plus).Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.Evidence of the capacity to contribute towards successfully obtaining external research funding.Capacity to contribute to internal service roles and external activities.Please note, you must maintain unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of these appointments to apply.
