Curtin University is seeking a Cyber Security Specialist to join our team for a 6-month parental leave cover opportunity.

About the role: This is an exciting opportunity to contribute your technical expertise and skills to impactful projects and initiatives, including: Conducting third-party cybersecurity risk assessments, ensuring comprehensive due diligence and ongoing oversight of vendors and external service providers—particularly those delivering SaaS-based solutions.
Evaluating and providing specialist advice on the security posture of new SaaS solutions, collaborating closely with procurement, privacy, legal, technical, and business stakeholders to securely enable Curtin University's digital transformation.
Supporting the development and continuous enhancement of third-party cyber risk governance frameworks and processes, including vendor security assessments, contractual security obligations, and ongoing security monitoring.
Delivering specialist guidance on cloud-native and SaaS security best practices, ensuring alignment with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and the University's cyber security standards.
Proactively identifying, assessing, and recommending mitigations for risks associated with SaaS and cloud environments, improving visibility, reducing threat exposure, and enhancing incident response preparedness.
What you'll need: A tertiary qualification in IT or Cyber Security and extensive relevant experience (or equivalent combination of experience and training).
Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISA, CISM, or CCSP .
Strong experience in cyber security advisory, risk management, and IT security consulting .
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate technical security concepts into business-friendly language.
A solid understanding of information security standards, compliance requirements, and best practices .
Analytical and problem-solving skills to assess cyber security risks and develop effective mitigation strategies .
Desirable: Certificate IV Training and Assessment.
Membership of information security related professional associations.
Role Requirements: Current working rights that match the tenure of this role.
Willing to undertake a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin's satisfaction.
Ability to work outside of normal office hours when required.
