Junior Compositor Arts & Entertainment Artist / Painter Contract 6/3/2025
Reporting to the head of 2D, the Junior Compositor will have a basic understanding of their tools and work under the mentorship of a more senior staff member.
Your ability to be enthusiastic about learning the craft of the discipline you are in, as well as the ability to proactively manage your own learning and output, will be highly regarded.
You will also maintain good working relationships with more senior staff in all disciplines, trying to understand what each staff member requires from them and why.
Responsibilities:The responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to:
Create and deliver composites that meet the creative and technical briefs for your team. Make your senior artists or show leads aware of technical and creative issues or challenges by communicating regularly. Collaborate with senior artists or show leads to ensure the creative and technical goals of projects are met. Create Nuke scripts that integrate efficiently into the compositing pipeline. Diagnose and resolve issues with your own Nuke scripts. Diagnose and resolve your own rendering problems. As required, create and deliver rotoscope work and motion paintwork, such as rig removal, tracking marker removal, and cosmetic fixes. Work within RSP's colour pipeline, adhering to the colour workflow as outlined by the project. Contribute to creative and technical conversations, with a view to raising the quality level of the final image. Demonstrate the ability to learn and adapt to new concepts. Meet deadlines and present work-in-progress as required. Operate and be a champion of RSP's values – Respect, Empowerment, Integrity, Collaboration, and Quality. Required Skills and Experience:
Strong time management and communication skills. Knowledge of Nuke and an understanding of the math behind comp operations. Strong understanding of colour theory, colour LUTs, composition, and the medium of film. Develop an understanding of the VFX pipeline and entire post-production process, including interdepartmental dependencies and handover processes. Strong level of attention to detail and a strong eye for aesthetic composition. Able to work in a Linux-based operating system using command line tools and understand file system navigation.
