The Courier is looking for a gun journalist to join its high-performing team to lead the publication into the future.
Based in Ballarat, the regional city that is the gateway to western Victoria and less than 1.5 hours from Melbourne by train, we're looking for someone to join a team of hard-working, inspiring and energetic journalists during a time when of rapid change in Ballarat and in the local news industry.
This role will lead the crew to drive the daily news agenda, developing first-class content for our subscribers across all platforms. Our next deputy editor will know how to get the best out of people and will be able to perform to a high standard while under pressure.

1. Driving the daily news agenda for the team of journalists
2. Developing first-class content for our subscribers across all platforms.
3. Mentor, coach and train team members to build a leading newsroom.
4. Fill in as editor when required.
Your background
5. Experienced journalist, having worked in varied roles in different newsrooms
6. Proven ability to use data and analytics to inform content decisions.
7. Excellent news-gathering skills
8. Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor with significant outcomes.
9. Able to perform at a high standard while under pressure.
10. Able to develop close relationships with key stakeholders.
11. Resilient and adaptable with a growth mindset.
