The Role:
We are seeking Consultant/Specialist Paediatricians to provide specialist paediatric care to both inpatient and ambulatory patients within the Paediatric Department of the Hospital, regional hospitals and remote communities; and to contribute to post graduate education, including the supervision of paediatric trainees.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide specialist care of children admitted to the general paediatric ward on a roster basis, including afterhours cover.
2. Conduct regular inpatient ward rounds and outpatient sessions, incorporating supervision and teaching of junior staff.
3. Participate in provision of specialist outreach paediatric services to regional hospitals and/or remote communities.
4. Provide specialist care and advice on the management of children to non-paediatric colleagues within the hospital, and to colleagues in geographically isolated centres in the NT.
5. Participate in continuous medical education including undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, professional development, peer review, research, and quality improvement activities.
6. Collaborate with other medical, nursing, and allied health colleagues to review and revise policies, procedures and guidelines in line with national and international recommendations.
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

The Hospital has 360 beds, servicing a population of over 140,000 it is a diverse population including urban, regional, and remote centres, it is a teaching hospital and is co-located with the Private Hospital.

Skills & Qualifications required:
Essential
1. Registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
2. Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians and skills appropriate for general paediatric care.
3. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to interact positively in a team and in a cross-cultural work environment.
4. Flexibility: an ability to work in a complex and unpredictable environment.
5. A demonstrated interest in and commitment to improving Indigenous health.
6. Experience in acute and developmental and behavioural paediatrics.
7. An understanding of the importance of child protection, and trauma-informed care in our region.
8. Evidence of commitment to continuing education, teaching, research and quality improvement activities.
Desirable
1. Specific experience in adolescent medicine.
2. Experience contributing to the development and implementation of local/regional policy.
