ACT Corrective Services (ACTCS) is seeking a dedicated and conscientious person to fill temporarily the position of Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ASO5) within the Custodial Operations branch of ACT Corrective Services, located at the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC). The primary objective of the Aboriginal Liaison Officer is to providea high level of culturally appropriate welfare services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander detainees with respect to the unique cultural perspectives and contemporary experiences both within and outside of the custodial environment. The successful applicant will support comprehensive case management services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander detainees and assist senior staff members to ensure the ACT Corrective Services objectives, particularly in terms of its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander detainees are upheld. The Aboriginal Liaison Officer role provides welfare support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander detainees, completing referrals and supporting detainees in accessing appropriate programs, services and activities both within and outside the AMC. Further to this, the successful applicant will support the development, implementation and facilitation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander specific programs, services and events within and outside the AMC. In addition, you will support the principles of sentence management within the AMC by providing primary cultural support to the AMC Sentence Management team in developing, monitoring and reviewing detainee case plans, and assist in maintaining systems for reviewing and monitoring detainee progress. To be successful in this role, you will have well-developed inter-personal skills with the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders both internal and external to corrective services. You will also be proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite and other data bases or the ability to quickly learn new databases/ programs.
