ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The City Open Spaces team manages the daily presentation and maintenance of Council’s open spaces, sportsgrounds, playgrounds, passive and public spaces, golf courses, botanical gardens and native vegetation areas within the Cumberland City Area, ensuring that our residents and visitors have access to quality and attractive open spaces of which they can be proud and enjoy.
We have an exciting opportunity within our Open Spaces team for an enthusiastic Team Member Bushland to join the team. This role will undertake a number of activities to deliver the overall maintenance of bushland and natural assets and ensure that the Open Spaces environment remains in an excellent and safe condition.
Reporting to the Team Leader Bushland, this role will also undertake programmed and maintenance work within the natural areas, parks, reserves and gardens. Additionally, this role will also undertake scheduled bush regeneration, revegetation and weed control activities.
The successful applicant will require:
1. Demonstrated experience in bush regeneration, experience in Cumberland Plain bushland an advantage
2. Demonstrated experience operating small plant and equipment, including small hand tools and power tools
3. Demonstrated ability to deal in a positive and courteous manner with the public and other workers.
4. Good verbal and written communication skills – ability to write clearly and neatly when completing necessary paperwork
5. Ability to work as part of a team with good interpersonal skills
6. Sound knowledge and practical application of WH&S principles and the Work Health and Safety legislation
7. Basic Computer Skills with the ability to adapt and learn new electronic systems and operate a range of devices including ipads.
8. Hold a current ‘ChemCert’ (Chemical Handling) qualification
9. Hold a current General Induction for Construction Work in NSW (White Card)
10. Hold a current Class C Drivers Licence.

Position information: This is a permanent, full-time position, working a 70 hour fortnight, with access to Council's 9 day fortnight Rostered Day Off (RDO) arrangement.
This role is predominantly located at Council's Auburn and Guildford Depot, with frequent travel required across Council worksites, and may be required to work across any of Council’s work locations.
Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.
11. Grade 4 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1,028.87 to $1,183.21 per week, plus 11% superannuation
12. The commencing salary will be negotiated, taking into consideration the successful applicant's qualifications, skills and experience related to the role
