Manager, Surveillance - 54706 Permanent Role Sydney location Join a supportive, high performing team How will I help?Westpac Group Risk plays a critical role in identifying, monitoring, and managing a range of risks.We provide expert advice and help our business partners make informed decisions.We ensure that however or wherever we operate, we have controls and frameworks to protect our business and our customers.The role is responsible for supporting the 2nd Line Surveillance function to develop and undertake planned and ad-hoc monitoring activities focused on the Westpac Institutional Bank.This includes building and maintaining the governance structure of the department, assisting with next–generation surveillance updates and developments, conducting in-depth reviews, as well as periodic qualitative assurance.This ensures compliance risks are managed within appetite.Key responsibilities: Support in driving "next generation" surveillance strategy and framework, to provide the most efficient and insightful risk identification, with a focus on Westpac Institutional Bank ("WIB").Maintaining the framework, policies, procedures, document libraries, model depositories, training register and meeting minutes.Contributing to a strong team culture and spirit of innovation within Westpac's Surveillance team to ensure the ongoing improvement and refinement of a high performing team.Provide ongoing review of broad Key Risk Indicators to identify events that warrant in-depth reviews, with a focus on Commodities, FX, fixed income and derivatives.Undertake in-depth reviews on key risks, with flexibility to devote sufficient time to identify more systemic behaviours.Ensure significant risks are identified with maximum efficiency, comprehensively investigated and promptly escalated.Participate in and contribute to the ongoing tactical prototype builds, and strategic projects and activities to develop and enhance Surveillance.Provide analysis of regulatory requirements and developments relevant to WIB to ensure appropriate compliance monitoring and surveillance is in place (in collaboration with other Compliance, Risk and Business stakeholders).Develop and maintain relationships with Front Office, Control Room, Middle Office, Market Risk, Product Specialists and local/country compliance etc.The role will have no direct reports however will work closely with equivalent in a relevant business discipline.5+ years' experience in trading, forensic accounting or compliance related roles (including surveillance or a related assurance discipline).Knowledge of Financial Markets Instruments and trading (e.g.FX, Commodities, MMKT transactions, Fixed Income) preferred.Exposure to monitoring/ surveillance tools including e-communications tools and/or analytics products.An understanding of Australia's markets and financial services laws, regulatory requirements and the key risks associated with this area.Ability to think "out-of-the box" and think innovatively in order to find the best way to detect inappropriate/ unusual activity and then curiosity to follow through with any risks identified.Competency to communicate across all levels of an organisation through channels appropriate to the situation.Ability to produce complex compliance reports in business language supported by factual analysis.Ability to lead discussions around complex problems with relevant stakeholders.Managing performance independently as well as delivering results as part of a team.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.High standards of professionalism and integrity.Good presentation skills, including one-to-one, small group, senior management.Well developed software skills including Excel and PowerPoint.Knowledge in SQL or other programming
