Kangaroo Island lies .5 kilometres off the mainland of South Australia, less than 3 hours by road and ferry south of Adelaide. Totalling 4, square kilometres, over a third of the island is protected in nature reserves which is home to a diverse range of native wildlife. The Island is renowned for its blend of rugged and natural beauty which attracts over, visitors each year.
Kangaroo Island Council services a community of approximately 4, residents. Based in Kingscote, the Council's vision for Kangaroo Island is a confident, growing, and cohesive community.
This position is responsible for processing development (building) applications against relevant legislation/codes, conduct site inspections, and investigate planning and building enforcement and compliance matters.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:
4. Assess development applications in accordance with relevant Building Codes, Legislative requirements, and in compliance with Council's Policy
5. Research, investigate and inspect building work and other matters of regulatory control
6. Advise Council, Public and industry stakeholders on all building and development matters
7. Conduct processing, assessment, and approval of building applications within agreed timeframes.
8. Review, analyse, and interpret plans and specifications
9. Enforce any alleged breach of the Planning Development and Infrastructure Act and related legislation in relation to building and associated matters
Successful candidates will have a formal qualification in Building Surveying and relevant experience relating to development assessment and enforcement practices dealing with matters of non-compliance. You will be an Accredited Professional - Building Level 1 or 2.
You will be an excellent communicator, both written and verbal, have exceptional customer service skills and the ability to negotiate, influence, and resolve potential disputes.
