The Opportunity - About the Role
We’re seeking a highly analytical housing / property economist to join our research team. In this role, you’ll lead the analysis of housing market trends, including demand and supply dynamics, affordability and price & volume implications. You’ll deliver robust housing / economic research that provides strategic guidance for investment and development decisions. The ideal candidate will be someone who thrives on property data analysis, has strong critical thinking skills and has a passion for understanding the interplay between economics, demographics and property markets. The initial focus will be on Australia’s residential/ housing and emerging alternative real estate sectors.
You'll sit within a high-performing and engaged Research team embedded within Group Investments. The team plays a pivotal role in building Stockland’s reputation as a market leading, research led organisation and has a broad remit across core and alternative real estate sectors. The team is dedicated to driving cutting edge research, focusing on highly strategic insights and ensuring insights are grounded in deep, rigorous and data driven analytics. The role provides exposure to an array of strategic research projects, underpinned by an overriding objective to inform optimal development and investment outcomes and returns. Key Responsibilities Will Include
• Conduct in-depth housing / property analysis on market trends, demographic shifts, economic indicators
• Assess the impact of housing policies and lending regulations on the housing market
• Develop econometric models to forecast housing prices, supply & demand trends, affordability etc
• Develop houseviews, providing forward looking perspectives on market trends and forecasts
• Manage and execute high impact strategic research projects delivering actionable insights for a broad spectrum of stakeholders
• Produce innovative thought leadership reports that not only position Stockland at the forefront of industry developments but have practical business applications
• Leverage tools to interpret customised catchment dynamics using geographic structured data
• Present findings in a simple and actionable way
About You
• Degree in economics, statistics, real estate, data analytics or related fields
• Ideally experience in housing / property analysis within real estate, consulting, economic research, property data analysis or related fields
• Proficiency in econometrics and statistical software such as Python
• A highly critical and lateral thinker with an ability to translate economic principles into actionable housing insights.
• Exceptional analytical skills and ability to interrogate data outcomes with commercial acumen
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey analytical findings to senior management
• Capabilities in GIS are a plus
• Strong ability to logically structure and communicate a thesis underpinning a view
