The key mission of this role will be to design, develop and deliver AI solutions and systems to deliver on this vision. The right candidate will bring a strong curiosity and technical perspective to these challenges, including a depth of experience in data science and AI algorithm and system design, along with a drive for delivering outcomes and working software in cross-functional teams.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the design, development and implementation of AI systems that deliver significant value to the company.Help identify, quantify and validate efficiency and productivity opportunities for AI systems using data from a wide range of sources.Maintain the backlogs for AI solution and system development, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to prioritise their development.Establish and maintain data science best practices, including rigorous model selection, testing and validation.Stay up to date with developments in AI and ML, and incorporate emerging techniques and technologies into our AI system design.Communicate the basis, impact and value of AI systems to a broad range of stakeholders, including senior leadership.Mentor junior data scientists and help support the capability development of data science and AI across Fortescue.Qualifications and ExperienceAn advanced degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, machine learning or engineering.Experience (7+ years) in data science and AI solution and system development in the mining, energy, green energy, or heavy industry sectors.Deep understanding and practical experience in statistics and machine learning, optimisation, simulation, and/or mathematics in mining, energy, green energy, or heavy industrial applications.Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills and a passion for statistical modelling of real-world systems.Strong knowledge of data science tools and technologies, including programming languages such as Python.Proven ability to coach, mentor and develop junior team members.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex AI algorithm and system concepts to a broad range of stakeholders.Experience in platforms such as Snowflake, S3 and Sagemaker (beneficial).Familiarity with operations research techniques (linear programming, combinatorial optimisation, simulation) is well regarded.About UsBe part of something big.
