Our State Government client is seeking a Forestry Ecologist to join the team on a lengthy 18-month contract, with the option to extend for a further 12 months.
As a Forestry Ecologist, you will be expected to: Provide specialist advice and support the development, implementation, review and ongoing improvement of the ecological program to enable the effective management of biodiversity and support regulatory compliance of native forest harvesting operations.
Provide high quality ecological services to identify and protect flora and/or fauna during native timber harvesting and other operations, including:
Surveying, locating and identifying key flora, fauna, habitat and ecological communities requiring protection through remote and field-based methods;Developing and maintaining effective management strategies for key species and communities potentially impacted by operations;Developing and maintaining databases and other tools and resources to support management of ecological values;Coordinating or undertaking significance tests for protected matters under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and protected plant flora surveys to meet Nature Conservation Act 1992 protected plants regulatory framework requirements;Contributing to operational planning. In order to excel in this great role, we ask that you consider the following key skills and experience before stepping foot on the application ladder:
Demonstrated experience in desktop environmental assessments and field surveys in Queensland.A working knowledge of Australian and Queensland environmental legislation.Possess recognition, or have the ability to be recognised, as a 'suitably qualified person' under the Queensland protected plants regulatory framework.Hold tertiary qualifications in ecology, botany, zoology and/or earth sciences.Driver's License Class C.Ability to travel for overnight field work.If you would like to know more about this role or are keen to apply, please feel free to contact Owen Millar on or email [emailprotected].
