What You’ll Do
As a Multimedia Technician, you’ll use creative and design software to create engaging and informative graphics, videos and other visual products to support educational, strategic and operational activities of the Australian Defence Force.
Key tasks as a Multimedia Technician include:
1. Design and develop visual communications from conception to production
2. Operate and maintain digital equipment, including audio, video and lighting
3. Capture and edit both video and photography
4. Operate a variety of illustrative, editing, presentation and 3D modelling software
5. Apply design principles and best practice principles to all outputs
This is a unique role with opportunities to travel and experience all aspects of the military. Specialise your craft whilst learning a broad range of skills in a role where no two projects are the same.
Training and Progression
You don’t need any prior experience to join. After completing recruit training, you’ll learn everything you need to know through your Initial Employment Training (IET). It will cover topics such as design fundamentals, multimedia software applications, audio and video production, information fusion and the planning and managing of multimedia tasks.
Once you have completed your Initial Employment Training you will be posted to a unit where you can consolidate and apply your basic multimedia skills. In that time, you will be required to complete the Introduction to Defence Intelligence Course (IDIC).
If you have a passion for certain multimedia skills, such as photography, videography, or 3D modelling there are opportunities throughout your career to develop specialised skills with additional training opportunities available.
Additional Information
A day in the life of a Multimedia Technician in the Australian Defence Force is never the same. You will develop information products, visual aides and 3D imagery to support information warfare operations. This uniquely creative military role offers plenty of variety, interest and adventure.
