Thiess is excited to offer 2 x equipment inspector roles for the Caterpillar mobile fleet at Mt Arthur South.
We’re building a high-performing maintenance team and are looking for skilled and driven Maintenance Equipment Inspectors – Mobile Fleet to play a key role in lifting performance and reliability across our fleet.
About the role
This is a hands-on, forward-looking role ideal for someone who has extensive applicable machine experience, is passionate about asset condition monitoring, defect prevention and setting maintenance teams up for success.
As a Maintenance Equipment Inspector, you’ll be the "eyes and ears" of our maintenance strategy—working closely with supervisors and planners to identify defects before they cause downtime. You’ll be instrumental in supporting our planning and execution teams with accurate technical insights, high-quality defect documentation, and effective communication to keep our equipment running safely and reliably.
Reporting to the Planning Superintendent, your responsibilities will include:
1. Conducting routine inspections of Caterpillar 793’s, 785’s, D10’s, D11’s & 24’s
2. Identifying, documenting, and escalating defects with detailed notes and photos
3. Collaborating with planners to assign appropriate labour, cost-effective parts, and accurate timelines to work orders
4. Assisting with parts organisation and transport needs for time-critical tasks
5. Supporting continuous improvement in defect turnaround, asset health, and reliability
6. Supporting the development and prioritisation of an accurate forward log of maintenance activities and upcoming work.
You’ll also contribute to building a proactive maintenance schedule that avoids unplanned downtime, optimises service duration, and keeps our fleet operating at its best between maintenance windows.
What You'll Bring
1. Heavy Diesel Fitter, Plant Mechanic, or related trade qualification
2. Experience working with the above mentioned Caterpillar equipment models
3. Strong diagnostic and fault-finding abilities with a sharp eye for detail
4. Confident communicator with a safety-first mindset
5. Proactive work ethic and ability to influence planned work outcomes
6. Familiarity with digital maintenance systems
7. Valid Australian manual driver’s licence
