This exciting new role is situated within the Heritage and First Nations Team – high performing professionals that deliver quality protection, conservation, compliance, and First Nations services for the City. The team is situated in the Sustainability, Heritage, and Compliance Branch of the Environment, Heritage and Resilience Department which services City administration, the Council, and our community.About your new roleAs Heritage Conservation Lead, you will lead the City’s heritage conservation work stream, ensuring the Gold Coast’s heritage is conserved.Key Responsibilities:Develop, document, and implement standardized processes and procedures for heritage conservation services across the City.Provide expert heritage conservation advice and support for City projects, ensuring alignment with local, state, and national heritage regulations and standards.Actively manage the City’s portfolio of heritage assets, including the development and implementation of conservation management plans, and oversee maintenance and repairs to preserve heritage value and integrity.Drive adaptive reuse initiatives and promote interpretive storytelling to celebrate and preserve the City’s heritage narratives.Establish and maintain a portable heritage register, tracking the City’s movable heritage assets.Lead public engagement programs and heritage incentive initiatives to foster community-led conservation efforts and increase participation in heritage conservation.Manage relationships with heritage interest groups, community organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders, promoting best practices in conservation.Plan and conduct training sessions for City officers and the community to build knowledge and capacity in heritage conservation practices.Oversee and update the City’s heritage conservation content on the website, ensuring it is informative, accessible, and engaging.Respond to inquiries from City officers, Council members, leaseholders, community groups, and other government entities regarding local heritage conservation matters.We're looking for people who have:Along with a passion for heritage conservation and strong leadership and people management skills, you will have at least 7 years of experience in built heritage and project management, as well as a master’s degree in a relevant cultural heritage discipline (such as Heritage Conservation, Architecture or a related field).In addition to this, you'll have:Extensive knowledge of heritage conservation best practices, including methods for preserving and reuse of built heritage.Proven practical experience in heritage conservation, with the ability to develop and implement strategies that uphold the significance and integrity of heritage assets.Strong project management skills, with experience in overseeing complex heritage projects and engaging with diverse stakeholders, including community members, government entities, and conservation professionals.Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to inspire and guide a team in achieving conservation goals.Advanced problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a commitment to high standards in heritage service delivery for the City.Highly developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including effective negotiation, consultation, and presentation abilities.A collaborative work style with strong analytical, research, and investigative skills to identify workable solutions and make informed recommendations.Ability to mentor and support team members while managing multiple projects and tasks in a dynamic environment, ensuring effective prioritization and project progression.Customer-focused, skilled in understanding and responding to both internal and external customer expectations with professionalism and clarity.Proficiency in technology, with an adaptable approach to learning and implementing new systems and processes as needed.Significant experience in leading technical heritage conservation advisory services and conservation programs, particularly in a government context, to ensure compliance with heritage standards and regulations is desirable.Be part of shaping the Gold Coast's futureThe Gold Coast is inspired by lifestyle and driven by opportunity.
