Our Software and DevSecOps Platform Engineering teams are the brains behind Australia’s number one banking app the Commbank app, Netbank, Cardless Cash, Comm Sec Pocket and Spend Tracker and the tools and infrastructure they rely on. They’re passionate about web and mobile development and creating reliable APIs at a unique scale in Australia, and they want you to be part of that journey.
As a key mentor and member of the squad, you'll be part of the Engineering Quality crew, looking to transform the group capability to Automated Testing and supporting the bank's Engineering Platform integration with CI/CD tools, Test Automation Frameworks as well as an escalation point for a subset of those services or capabilities .This position will see you become responsible for mentoring a squad of software and quality engineers for a portfolio of services. You'll play an important role in steering the organisation by contributing to the strategy and determining which problems to invest in solving. In doing so, you will bring a perfect blend of leadership skills and technical knowledge to this team.

The CBA technology unit delivers the best digital banking services to CommBank customers and in doing so is responsible for the digital delivery, group data and analytics, technology and technology infrastructure, cyber, fraud, physical security, and business resilience for all divisions across CBA. It is also dedicated to delivering the best workplace technology experience to over 53,000 people across CBA and provide the latest tools, technology, and resources to enhance the way we work together and empower our people to achieve more for our customers.
The Engineering Platform team, which ensure that CommBank has a world-class engineering capability and is at the forefront of technology, using innovative and emerging technology to help our customers and support our Group strategy. We work hard to ensure best practice is discovered and nurtured, whether inside CommBank or in the broader technology ecosystem.
We’re interested in hearing from people who:
1. Have a thorough understanding of available DevOps tooling, such as software or tooling for the CI/CD pipeline.
2. Proactively collaborates with others to resolve service issues and reduce operational activities by automating repetitive tasks.
3. Have software development experience and a willingness to learn and jump into the deep-end of technical problems.
4. Have pragmatic approach towards SDLC processes with a bias towards velocity and security
5. Proven ability to catch defects early in the lifecycle and reduced dependency on expensive UI or e2e tests
6. Encourages risk-taking and constructively challenges the status quo while influencing stakeholders and building fit for purpose automation frameworks.
7. Have a ‘you build it and you run it’ mindset and continue focusing on delivering top quality services to end-users.
8. Experience in shaping overall application architecture to enable better quality practices and automation
9. Effectively communicate engineering practice standards and consistent ways of working across squads and CBA that align to global best practice.
10. Automated verification in production
Tech skills:
We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:
11. Test Automation, testing frameworks and optimising test processes in a software environment is essential
12. Mocking, service virtualisation and\or contract testing
13. Expertise with CI/CD pipeline tooling-, GitHub Actions, TeamCity, Playwright, Cypress, Cucumber, Gherkin, Selenium, Blazemeter
14. TDD/BDD or model based testing experience
15. Automated environment and test data provisioning
16. Demonstrated experience in shifting testing left
17. Automated evidence generation and reporting
18. Proficient with modern languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar is a plus
19. Familiarity with Containerisation and public cloud engineering - AWS preferred
20. Code reviews, policy configurations
21. Networking concepts such as zones, load balancing, whitelisting, and proxies
22. Infra as code
23. Secure code scanning – sonarqube, synk
