In this part-time, maximum-term position (30.4 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, to end of June 2025 with potential for extension), you'll provide practical case management support to young people aged 10–17 years and their families in Wagga and surrounding areas, focusing on reducing avoidable short-term remand.
As part of the Short-Term Remand Pilot and reporting to the Team Leader, you'll deliver targeted, culturally safe support.
You will make a difference by: Providing practical case management and support to young people on short-term remand or at risk of remand, with a focus on wellbeing, mentoring, and pathways to education or employment Strengthening family capacity through a partnership-based, client-centred approach that promotes stability, connection, and long-term positive outcomes Identifying additional needs and linking young people and families to appropriate legal, housing, and support services to prevent further justice system involvement A place to feel valued: You're genuinely passionate about advocating for young people and ensuring they have the support they need to avoid unnecessary short-term remand.
With experience in trauma-informed practice and strengths-based approaches, you bring a deep understanding of the challenges faced by young people involved in the justice system.
Your background is ideally in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Social Sciences, or a similar field, and you thrive on engaging with communities, building relationships, and providing practical support.
Your strong cultural knowledge enables you to work effectively with families, and you're creative and committed to supporting young people aged 10–17 years in finding positive pathways forward.
This role requires: Experience in designing and delivering innovative and creative youth-focused programs, ideally within a justice or early intervention context, using a paired facilitation model A Diploma/Degree qualification in Social Work, Youth Work, or a relevant field is desirable, or significant relevant experience Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities, with a strong understanding of culturally safe and responsive practice Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with young people and their families to establish meaningful goals and support plans Experience in practical case management, data collection, record-keeping, and strong case noting skills to support effective service delivery and advocacy We strongly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates to apply.
