This position works in the Animal Production Sciences (APS) Unit of Agriculture Victoria Research and undertakes research activities within the Dairy Feedbase program, which aims to improve the productivity and profitability of pasture-based dairy systems.
The appointee will contribute to designing and implementing research within Dairy Feedbase, assist in reporting on the research both internally and to external stakeholders, and prepare scientific publications and other written material. The incumbent will also contribute to other associated dairy and livestock research projects at the Ellinbank and Hamilton SmartFarms. This will be achieved through innovative research and science excellence, supported by technical efficiency, business processes, technology adoption and knowledge management.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
1. Essential: A degree in Agricultural Science, Science, or an equivalent science qualification, with post-graduate qualifications in a relevant science discipline such as grazing ecology, animal physiology or ruminant nutrition (candidates who have submitted their thesis are encouraged to apply).
2. Essential: Developed critical analysis and problem-solving skills with a demonstrated ability to design, conduct, evaluate and report on research findings.
3. Desirable: Knowledge of dairy production systems in Victoria and Australia and an understanding of the key issues facing the dairy and livestock industries.
To be successful in this role, you will be able to demonstrate knowledge of principles and operation of ruminant production systems as applicable to grazing-based environments along with research experience in the implementation of animal experimentation. If you have experience of effective participation in research project teams and leadership of research projects as well as well-developed communication skills, then this could be the position for you.
This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is Ellinbank.
