What You'll Do
As a Curation Officer with RBGV, you will help manage the State Botanical Collection. In this role, you'll curate herbarium specimens, update taxonomic records, refine curation practices, and support database management. You'll also assist researchers, manage specimen loans and exchanges, contribute to pest management and help train volunteers. Additionally, you'll engage the public through tours and presentations while ensuring compliance with industry standards.
What You'll Bring
The ideal candidate will hold a degree or diploma in science or equivalent experience in herbarium curation. You'll have familiarity with the Australian flora, identification procedures, botanical literature, and the International Code of Nomenclature. Experience with herbarium procedures, curatorial methods, and relational databases (such as Specify) is essential.
You should be highly detail-oriented, capable of handling repetitive tasks with accuracy and efficiency, and adept at organising and managing large workloads while adapting to changing priorities. The role requires a proactive, independent approach to problem-solving, along with excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across diverse teams.
