The Role You will be responsible for a broad range of curatorial and collection management activities, ranging from accessioning through to exhibition design and public engagement. You will assist in the complete re-design of the museum including research on artefacts and stories, exhibition development, and installation. You will have opportunities to contribute to or lead public engagement with members of the public, members of the Army, and VIPs. The Curator works with a small part-time team, and has some authority and discretion to exercise initiative and judgement to achieve results.
About our Team The Australian Army History Unit collects, preserves and exhibits the history of the Australian Army, one of the nation's oldest and most respected institutions. The Army Museum Duntroon captures the history and tells the stories of Australia's formal officer training institutions. We assist Army Headquarters to undertake public engagement through visitation to our museum, and we contribute to the professional development of serving personnel through our exhibits.
Our team offers the opportunity to work in the museum sector alongside a small team of part-time service members, and a network of museum professionals located across Army's Museums throughout Australia.
Our Ideal Candidate The Australian Army History Unit is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual to provide a full range of curatorial services for the Army Museum Duntroon. The successful applicant will join our team at a very exciting time, where you will have the opportunity to contribute to a complete museum redesign. You will require previous experience or training in the museum sector, along with excellent interpersonal and organisational skills. The position requires someone who can use their initiative to develop pragmatic solutions for a broad range of museum activities with limited guidance.
The Curator will work with a small part-time team to undertake the development and installation of high-quality exhibitions and collection management requirements. You must be a strong team player and equally comfortable operating independently. We are seeking someone with strong communication skills who is capable of distilling and conveying key messages to a broad audience.
