Super)Ideally located in Port Stephens, however other locations will be consideredLead a high performing team and make an impactHelp drive the social and economic benefits of fisheries, aquaculture and sustainability of aquatic environments, driving research and development to support climate change adaptation and new and emerging markets for blue carbon capture and storage and aquatic biodiversity.About the RoleThe Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is seeking an Executive Director Fisheries to lead Fisheries Compliance, Research, Management and Marine Parks.This role is responsible for advancing sustainable cultural, commercial, and recreational fishing, and aquaculture, while safeguarding NSW’s aquatic resources. As a core member of the Fisheries and Forestry Leadership Team, you will provide strategic and policy advice to senior government officials, driving initiatives that support sustainable fishery practices and resource protection.You will also lead research, development, and education programs, promote voluntary compliance, and engage with industry, community, and government stakeholders to foster collaboration and achieve departmental goals. This is an opportunity for a forward-thinking leader to make a significant impact on the future of NSW’s fisheries.To be successful in this role, you will have:Relevant tertiary qualifications in public administration, commercial or business-related discipline, or related professional/technical qualification and/or substantial demonstrated equivalent professional experience in a relevant fieldProven extensive senior executive experience in managing large programs that require significant engagement with clients, industry, and stakeholders, particularly in education, regulation, and complianceDemonstrated understanding of current and emerging issues and risks affecting commercial and recreational fishing and aquaculture in NSWYou’ll be someone who can:Operate with a high level of autonomy and be fully and directly accountable for the advice you provide to all levels of government and stakeholdersEffectively manage the design and implementation of robust change management strategies and communication programs to achieve high levels of employee engagement during periods of strategic changeDemonstrate a solid understanding of government decision making systems and processesSounds interesting?If you are a strategic leader with a passion for sustainable fisheries, we invite you to apply.
