About the role The Workplace Relations Legal Division is led by the Chief Counsel. The division works closely with policy divisions in the WR Group to provide legal advice about workplace relations matters to Government. The division also provides legal advice to government on workplace relations legislative reform options, liaising with the Office of Parliamentary Counsel (OPC) about the drafting of legislation and providing support to the Minister during the Parliamentary phases of the legislation process. The division also provides advice to the Minister on possible ministerial intervention in legal matters and managing those interventions to ensure the Minister puts forward clear, well-argued submissions to the relevant court or tribunal.
About you We are looking for people with a broad range of skills and abilities. Desired skills include excellent legal analytical and problem-solving skills, sound professional judgment and organisational skills; and a proven ability to clearly explain concepts, ideas and arguments to a range of audiences. Candidates should have the ability to manage and prioritise work and achieve quality outcomes within tight timeframes, excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, including good judgement and resilience, an ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with others, and foster a respectful and positive workforce culture. Additionally, candidates should be able to work in an agile, fast-paced environment, value and explore innovation and diversity, and have experience in assisting with legal advice on aspects of workplace relations law, work health and safety, and/or workers' compensation is desirable.
