Contract Care are looking for passionate and skilled casual Chefs to join our team and contribute to this essential service. Position Overiview The Casual Chef will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, appetising, and culturally appropriate meals for the residents of our aged care facility. You will work closely with the kitchen team to ensure that meals are prepared to a high standard, while adhering to food safety, hygiene regulations, and the dietary needs of the elderly population. This role involves flexible hours, and you will be required to work on a casual basis to cover shifts, including weekends and public holidays as needed. Key Responsibilities: Meal Preparation & Cooking: Prepare and cook meals for residents, ensuring that they are nutritious, visually appealing, and meet dietary requirements. Menu Planning & Dietary Requirements: Assist in menu planning with the Head Chef, considering individual dietary needs (e.g. texture-modified diets, diabetic, vegetarian, halal, etc.), cultural preferences, and special requests. Food Safety & Hygiene: Ensure the kitchen operates according to health and safety standards, including proper food handling, storage, and cleaning practices. Maintain records of food safety checks. Resident Engagement: Engage with residents to receive feedback about meals and ensure that food is presented in a manner that encourages a positive dining experience. Stock Management: Assist in stock control and inventory management, ensuring that food supplies are adequately stocked and stored, and food wastage is minimized. Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff, including kitchen hands and catering assistants, to ensure smooth kitchen operations. Flexibility: Cover shifts as needed, including weekends, evenings, and public holidays, to ensure continuous operation of the kitchen. Key Skills & Experience: Culinary Qualifications: Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent, or significant experience in a similar role. Experience in Aged Care or Healthcare Setting: Previous experience working in aged care, hospitals, or a similar healthcare environment is preferred, but not essential. Food Safety Knowledge: Understanding of food safety practices, including knowledge of HACCP and WHS regulations. Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with team members, residents, and other staff members. Passion for Cooking: A genuine interest in preparing meals that meet the dietary needs and preferences of elderly residents.
