Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine Specialist

Starship is urgently seeking a locum Specialist for our Manawa Ha (Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine service) while appointment for a permanent Specialist takes place.
The role will provide clinical support to the Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine service and may interest existing Specialists looking for a sabbatical opportunity, individuals who have recently completed their specialist training or recently retired Specialists who can provide some clinics and/or after hours on call.
The Manawa Ha / Paediatric Respiratory and Sleep Medicine service at Starship provides inpatient care for local, regional and national patient groups with a range of acute and chronic medical needs, including patients with multiple sub-speciality team input. The service also provides consultation to other speciality services throughout Starship and outpatient care, including outreach and virtual clinics. The service incorporates respiratory physiology with a laboratory providing respiratory and sleep testing. The department also runs a bronchoscopy service.
The candidate will participate in the reduction of Māori health inequities by participating in clinics to address waiting list pressures.
The hours and working conditions can be flexible, depending on the candidate's availability and experience. We are particularly interested in candidates who might already have registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, and/or the ability to work in New Zealand with appropriate authority from Immigration New Zealand.
We are open to discussing hours and patterns of work with the right candidate, which might include all or some of the following:
· Flexible time periods
· Provision of clinics in general respiratory conditions, sleep medicine, bronchiectasis and/or cystic fibrosis
· On-call commitments covering acute in-patient work on the ward and consultations for new referrals
Pehea | About You
You will be a fully trained Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and Sleep Specialist capable of providing the full suite of services within the speciality.
We are seeking candidates with:
· Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, or be eligible to become vocationally registered
· Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, or equivalent
· Demonstrated Te Tiriti o Waitangi knowledge and application*
· A flexible and collaborative working style able to adapt to clinical complexity
*Applicants from outside New Zealand are welcome. For non-New Zealand applicants, prior experience in working with patients and staff from different cultural backgrounds is essential.
