The Role:
You will work in a team of engineers and technical officers to provide Defence stakeholders with expert spectrum engineering advice and shape policies and procedures of spectrum management as a growing capability within Defence.
You will perform technical analyses, negotiate with satellite operators of other countries, and secure sufficient satellite spectrum to meet Defence requirements.
You will identify domestic and international spectrum matters of strategic interest to Defence, assist in direction of that work, and provide high-level customer service for Defence and external clients.
You will attend international forums, spectrum working groups, and satellite coordination meetings representing Defence.
This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP).
This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary, for positions critical to Defence capability.
About our Team:
You will work in a team of fellow spectrum engineers and specialists managing the use of the radiofrequency spectrum by Defence at a regulatory and strategic level.
The team consists of experienced Technical Officers and Engineers who have gained experience in managing spectrum for Defence systems.
The specialist spectrum engineers provide advice on accessing spectrum for space, terrestrial, and electronic warfare systems, acting as a centre of excellence for the Defence community.
Our Ideal Candidate:
You should have skills in performing critical engineering activities, including modelling and simulation, and providing advice in communication engineering under broad direction.
You should have experience in application of communications engineering knowledge and experience to identify risks and uncertainties and take these into account in planning, decision making, and priority setting.
You should have skills to build and sustain positive relationships with team members, actively participate in teamwork, and motivate and mentor developing engineers.
You should have excellent communication and customer engagement skills, high-level organisational skills, self-drive, and initiative to influence others to achieve tasks and business objectives.
You should be able to manage workflows, resources of a small team, detailing measurable milestones and expected outcomes.
Security Clearance:
Prior to commencement, you will be required to undergo a psychological assessment and an extensive security clearance process.
You must be an Australian Citizen, able to account for your personal background for your whole life, and demonstrate suitability to work in a high security intelligence environment.
