About Us
The Department of Transport and Main Roads is responsible for managing Queensland's transport network, including 1,756kms of National Highways, 6,335km of State controlled roads, and 35,483km of local government roads. The department also oversees the maintenance and development of these roads.
The Role
In this role as a Principal Engineer (Civil), you will support the Manager, Project Planning and Corridor Management in delivering major infrastructure and preservation planning projects. You will lead project managers, project engineers, and contractors, providing guidance and direction to ensure successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
* Investigate and resolve complex issues associated with projects, preparing submissions and reports on planning and technical issues to improve overall performance.
* Engage with TMR technical Subject Matter Experts to undertake specific project review activities, ensuring quality outcomes acceptable to TMR and the Federal Government.
* Monitor and report on project progress against predetermined specifications, managing resources to optimize outcomes and provide regular reporting to TMR senior management and the Project Leadership Team on project status, risks, and opportunities.
* Apply expert contractual knowledge to establish effective procurement mechanisms and contracts, actively managing the performance of external engineering consultants.
Mandatory Qualifications and Conditions
* A four-year, Washington Accord accredited, Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or equivalent degree assessed and accepted by Engineers Australia against Washington Accord benchmarks.
* Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is mandatory for appointment to this position.
* A current Class 'C' Driver's Licence.
* Pre-employment checks, including a criminal history screening and declaration of serious discipline history, are required.
* Eligibility to work in Australia.
